In the dark, the hill opens and – led by the sorceress Muri and the mountain girl Hilda – creatures of the underworld emerge to the surface. Hilda approaches Junker Ove to offer him a drink from a goblet. But Junker Ove pours the contents onto the ground and refuses to hand back the goblet despite Hilda’s pleadings. The infuriated Muri and Hilda disappear. The hill retracts and the dangerous elf girls whirl around the exhausted Junker Ove until he is deranged by their dance…. »
